Careers at Woodeaton

At Woodeaton, we understand and appreciate, that for all our pupils, who have special educational needs, an important element of our careers programme needs to be careful preparation and planning for their next steps, in order to equip all of our pupils for future study. This is particularly important for our pupils, the majority of whom, find change and transition very difficult.

Our bespoke, pupil led careers programme includes exposure to a variety of employers and employees and helps pupils prepare for the workplace, by building the necessary self-development skills, appropriate to each pupil.

We aim to provide experience and a clear understanding of the working world and to work with pupils to help them to develop an awareness of the variety of education, training and careers opportunities available to them. We also help pupils to understand routes to careers that they’re interested in, and to make informed choices about their next steps in education or training

Most importantly, we strive to promote a culture of high aspirations and equality of opportunity for each and every pupil.

We are working hard to ensure that we are meeting the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks which are:

  • A stable careers programme with a careers leader
  • Learning from career and labour market information
  • Addressing the needs of each pupil
  • Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Experience of workplaces
  • Encounters with further and higher education
  • Personal guidance

We have recently set up Career Companion which contains information on opportunities for our senior pupils.
