Sixth Form

After a successful pilot in 2009, Woodeaton Manor added a sixth form to our provision in 2010.  All children on our role now have the option of staying on in our sixth form or moving to a college or mainstream sixth form.

If a pupil has been with us for more than three years and they want to take up a place at university, then our advice would be to ‘move on/move up’ to a college or sixth form.  We believe that the rigor of a more robust environment will give prospective universities the evidence and confidence to accept our pupils.  Equally, the challenge of managing a mainstream experience gives our pupils and their families a very strong sense of ‘just because you have a diagnosis doesn’t mean that you can’t be successful’.  Extensive support for parents, carers, prospective destinations and of course the pupil, during transition is a given.

For those pupils who have been with for a very short time e.g. arriving part way through Year 10, or who are particularly vulnerable, our advice would be to stay for a little longer to ensure emotional stability and social competence to be able to manage a transition.

The academic provision mirrors on the needs of the pupils in our sixth form.
